Serialised filmmaking has long been an integral part of the Berlinale, as both a cultural showcase in the public programme and as an important creative and business exchange within the Berlinale Pro* industry programmes. In 2025, the Berlinale reaffirms its commitment with exciting new series due to be presented in the public programme, at the Berlinale Series Market or at Co-Pro Series.
Berlinale Director Tricia Tuttle comments: “Berlinale was early amongst major international film festivals to present series prominently across a number of platforms, from premiering international series for the audience to supporting series projects in development and sales via our industry programmes. As we start the process of selection across these sections, we very much look forward to discovering some of the truly excellent works being made in series from around the world.”
To further strengthen the selection of series, Tricia Tuttle has appointed the experienced series programmer Rowan Woods as a special advisor for the public programme. Audiences and professionals attending the Berlinale can look forward to a curated range of major new series presented across sections of the Festival.
In addition to the programme for the public, the Berlinale offers a diverse series portfolio for professionals. The successful industry platform Berlinale Series Market was initiated by the Berlinale Pro* sections European Film Market (EFM), Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents.
Berlinale Series Market
Taking place from February 16 to 19, 2025 at CinemaxX, the eleventh edition will feature a conference programme, showcases, and market screenings. Under the Berlinale Series Market Selects label, organisers will once again spotlight 10 to 16 series with high market potential from across the globe, selected by a diverse jury of recognised industry professionals. This selection acts as a launchpad for these shows, highlighting their quality, as many examples from previous editions have gone on to succeed at other major industry events. Details about the submission process can be found at the Berlinale Series Market Selects website.
As part of the conference programme one festival-selected series and its creators will take centre stage. The signature-curated showcase Up Next: Germany will feature four upcoming German series in talks with their creators and producers.
The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW is co-initiator and main partner of the Berlinale Series Market. From the very beginning, it has supported the growth and international recognition of the industry platform. The Berlinale Series Market is also supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
Co-Pro Series
Co-Pro Series, the specialised two-day pitching and networking event, is curated and organised by the Berlinale Co-Production Market and held during the Berlinale Series Market.
A selection of ten high-profile drama series projects from around the world in development and financing stages will be presented at the 11th Co-Pro Series Pitch. Following the pitch, the producers and creators have targeted one-on-one meetings with potential co-production and financing partners. Producers can submit their new drama series projects for Co-Pro Series until October 1. Interested partners looking for projects can sign up starting in November.
