The actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón will be recognized with the Goya Honorary Award of 2025, a prize for her career that the institution will present to her at the Goya Awards Gala, which will take place on February 8 at the Conference Palace in the city of Granada.
Nearly 40 years of film career back the actress, who won the Silver Shell for Best Actress at the San Sebastian Film Festival for Volavérunt, directed by Bigas Luna, and received her first Goya nomination for Madres paralelas by Pedro Almodóvar. A career in cinema, which she has balanced with her outstanding work on stage, and popular characters in television series.
The Board of Directors of the Academy has decided to award this honorary prize to "an actress who is very loved and respected by her peers and recognized by the public and critics since the beginning of her career. A complete actress: serious, responsible, competent, approachable, and someone who knows how to bring truth, sincerity, and depth to all her work," emphasized the president of the Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite.
For the actress, the Goya Honorary Award "is a boost, I´m feeling loved by my colleagues, who value that I’ve been here my whole life and feeling that I’m part of this film family. It’s been 40 years since I began dedicating myself professionally to acting and 45 years since I started with La Barraca. I was almost born an actress, and knowing that my life’s journey is seen by my peers deeply moves me. Many of us who do this need to be loved, and this is a maximum proof of love. It’s an encouragement to keep moving forward."
