Lunenburg Doc Fest starts this evening!

We begin the Lunenburg Doc Fest tonight with our Shark Night Kick Off presentation of GREAT WHITE NORTH INVASION at 6:30 PM at the Lunenburg Opera House. Grab tickets HERE to watch this high-stakes mission of tagging, tracking, and understanding the ocean’s ultimate predator go down!

Following our opening night presentation, we have a screening of LILITH FAIR: BUILDING A MYSTERY at 9 PM, also at the Opera House. Some promotions stated that the films starts at 8:30 PM, but it will start at 9:00 PM. This film tells the story of the women-led festival that defied industry norms and features legends like Fiona Apple, Tracy Chapman, and Sheryl Crow in their lineup. Check out this review of the film from when it premiered at TIFF! Tickets are still available HERE!

If you’re not in Lunenburg, we still have something for you! Don’t miss BLUE ROAD: THE EDNA O’BRIEN STORY at 7 PM at the Osprey Arts Centre in Shelburne. Tickets will be available at their box office or by phone 902-875-2359. This recounting of the novels, love affairs, and stardom of Irish writer, Edna O’Brien, isn’t one to miss.

TOMORROW!

LDF opens in full on Thursday, September 18 with the Sunset Gala at Zwicker Wharf, a red-carpet evening along the waterfront, ahead of the Atlantic Canadian Premiere of SWAMP DOGG GETS HIS POOL PAINTED at 7:30 PM at the Lunenburg Opera House. Following the film, we’re thrilled to welcome stars Swamp Dogg and Moogstar to the stage for a Q+A and live musical performance. Tickets are going fast. Get them HERE for this night to remember!

*Special note for Friday’s screening of PRECIPICE: The screening at 2:30 PM is sold out; therefore tickets will be available if space permits on a RUSH basis. We’ve added an additional screening at 5 PM with tickets available HERE.

*Special note for Friday’s screening of HOME IS THE OCEAN: This screening at 7 PM at the Chester Playhouse is almost sold out! Get your tickets HERE.

Programmer’s Picks!
Senior programmer Tara Thorne selected four films you don't want to miss...

HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY (Thursday, 10 PM)

An achingly timely portrait of trans lawyer Chase Strangio's fight to overturn a law in the southern US that blocks access to gender-affirming care for minors, and how one person's courage can result in world-wide progress.

ROW OF LIFE (Friday, 10 AM)

A slice of life meets endurance campaign in this character piece about Angela Madsen, the military vet/Paralympian/lesbian who attempted a record-setting solo row from California to Hawaii. You'll be on her side from minute one.

HOLD ME CLOSE (LIMITLESS LOVE SHORTS BLOCK, Friday, 12:30 PM)

A quiet, romantic, poignant look at a relationship between two queer Black women that combines gently spoken voiceover with images of their day-to-day for a touching distillation of modern life.

SPEAK. (Friday, 6:30 PM)

This inspirational, rousing piece pulls incredible drama and surprising stakes out of high-school oration of all things, while touching on themes of race, gender, queerness, grief, suicide, and the rural/urban divide.
