On October 17th, 2025, the Vermont International Film Festival kicks off at 7 pm with its first film, Akinola Davies Jr.’s My Father’s Shadow. 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the largest film festival in the state of Vermont: the Vermont International Film Festival, or VTIFF for short. Through its dedication to advancing cinema as a vital art form, equal to other artistic media, the festival ensures that film culture remains an essential part of Vermont's overall culture. Celebrating the rich diversity of storytelling and global cinema, the festival creates a lively, educational atmosphere that fosters a love and understanding of creative media. During the rest of the year, VTIFF serves the broader community by expanding the accessibility of independent film, supporting local and regional film initiatives, partnering with other film festivals, and running its own curated film program. Also prioritizing the creation of connections among filmmakers and other artistic communities to foster professional growth and collaboration.

Through presenting films that emphasize inclusivity and diversity in a theatrical setting, VTIFF encourages its audience to share the cinematic experience with one another, encouraging openness, inquiry, and an exchange of ideas. Through the festival's determination to uphold its anti-discriminatory values, VTIFF promotes an atmosphere rooted in mutual respect and creative freedom, ensuring that all participants not only feel welcomed but also safe and respected. Their goal is to be the premier hub for quality cinema, film appreciation, cultural exchange, and community for Vermont and beyond.
