Awards Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes, France 47th edition

The Festival des 3 Continents, international event dedicated to cinema from Africa, Latin America and Asia announced its winners this evening in Nantes after eight days of encounters and discoveries without borders.

The Festival is delighted to have welcomed 23 000 festival-goers for a record-breaking edition.

In a social and economic context significantly weakened by budget cuts, this 47th edition of the Festival des 3 Continents was pleased to see even larger audiences join the event and share with us both their concerns and their solidarity. This support for the values we firmly uphold is also a way of coming together and collectively questioning the persistent feeling that the control we have over our lives and our society is slipping away. For as we know, cinema has this unique power to shift us, to unsettle our point of view — a necessary process — but it is also its unwavering determination to never give up that audiences once again came to encounter. It was a wonderful edition, and the awards of the international competition eloquently reflect a variety of aesthetics whose only common denominator is the turbulence of our present time.

The festival juries and audience made their choice, and five films were honoured at the Graslin Theatre. (Angers Nantes Opéra) this Friday, 28 November 2025.

The awards ceremony began with a screening of Kamal ALJAFARI's film With Hasan in Gaza.

THE AWARDS

Ten films participated in the international competition at this 47th edition of the Festival des 3 Continents.

The Jury was composed of Sina ATAEIAN DENA (screenwriter, director, producer, Iran), India HAIR (actress, France), Tatiana LEITE (producer, programmer, Brazil), Franco LOLLI (director, screenwriter, producer, Colombia).

Montgolfière d’or

The jury has decided to award the Montgolfière d'or to the film The World of Love, directed by YOON Ga-eun, fiction (South Korea).

The Montgolfière d'or is sponsored by the festival and the city of Nantes.

The jury states: “The jury unanimously chose this film for its exploration of a universally denied subject, treated with depth, tenderness, and sensitivity. Through rich and complex characters who have the courage to refuse to be confined by an imposed narrative, the film tackles a taboo subject without ever looking away, always celebrating life and love above all else. For its richness, its power, and its ability to make us think, The World of Love receives the Montgolfière d’or”

Montgolfière d’argent

The jury decided to award the Montgolfière d’argent to the film Hair, Paper, Water..., by directors TRUONG Minh Quy et Nicolas GRAUX, documentary (France, Belgium, Vietnam).

The Montgolfière d’argent is sponsored by the festival and the Loire Atlantique Departmental Council.

The jury states: “The jury was deeply moved by the tenderness of the film’s gaze on a generation of resilient women who cared for themselves and their families within nature, far from the madness of capitalism. This film reminds us of the importance of passing down a unique language and knowledge, intimately connected to the land, to a new generation. The film itself becomes a precious document. For all these reasons, we have chosen to award the Montgolfière d’argent to Hair, Paper, Water…”

Special Mention

The jury decided to give a Special Mention to the lead actress Anika BOOTZ in the film The Message, by Iván FUND, fiction (Argentina, Spain, Uruguay).

The jury states: “The jury awards a Special Mention to Anika BOOTZ, a young actress who shines on screen in The Message, a poetic film that radiates affection, love, and a gentle sense of wonder. At the heart of the story, the film highlights the character of a young girl who embodies the fragile beauty of our bonds with other beings, portrayed with remarkable care, love and attention.”

The Young Jury Award

The Young Jury is composed of four young people living in the Nantes metropolitan area.

Amina ABCHAR (cultural mediation student), Evangeliste DREUKO (young professional and audiovisual enthusiast), Lénaïs FLAUJAC (student in the Ciné-sup preparatory class) and Juliette POIBEAU (student in multimedia graphic design) decided to award the film Suçuarana, by Clarissa CAMPOLINA and Sérgio BORGES, fiction (Brazil).

The Young Jury Award is sponsored by the festival and Nantes Atlantique Airport.

The jury states: “This film captivated us with its immersive sound, its mystery, the authenticity of its characters and its rich performances. We were moved by its enigmatic nature, as well as its female-led road movie aspect, a liberating journey that opens up new horizons.”

Audience Award
 

The festival audience voted after each screening and decided to award Attachment, a documentary (Senegal, Belgium, France) by Mamadou Khouma GUEYE.

The audience award is sponsored by the festival and LNA Santé.
