LA Native: New Series from Amplify Pictures

Amplify Pictures, the pioneering independent studio behind HBO’s Emmy-winning 100 Foot Wave and the upcoming Legends for Nat Geo/Disney+, has greenlit development on the new comedy series LA Native, it was announced today by Amplify Pictures CEO Joe Lewis. The half-hour scripted series is written and created by Siena East (Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Clone High for HBO Max, Fox’s Grimsburg) with Chadd Gindin (Fox’s Grimsburg, Netflix’s Murderville and Santa Clarita Diet, ABC’s United We Fall) serving as the comedy’s showrunner.

LA Native is executive produced by Amplify Pictures and Gindin.

“We’re in a really incredible time for Native television thanks to years of hard work by Indigenous artists who have fought for our stories to be told. It’s so exciting to get to develop a show close and dear to my heart. A Native story about an unlikely hero who makes unlikely choices that my mom is exhausted by. What is this personal? Probably,” said LA Native creator and writer Siena East.

“Amplify Pictures is thrilled to partner with Siena on the unbelievably funny LA Native. Breakthrough comedy requires making big bets on incredible new voices and Siena is that and so much more," added Amplify Pictures CEO Joe Lewis.

In LA Native, Genoa Now is an unruly Native twentysomething in Los Angeles trying to make friends and connect with her Native American culture.

Choctaw writer and comedian Siena East’s writing credits include Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Clone High for HBO Max and Fox’s Grimsburg. As an actress, she was recently cast in Sterlin Harjo’s FX pilot The Sensitive Kind starring Ethan Hawke and has also appeared in HBO’s The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Amplify Pictures is the independent studio that develops, finances and produces award-winning, commercially driven scripted series, documentary projects and theatrical productions, including HBO’s Emmy-winning 100 Foot Wave, currently in its third season. Founded in 2018 by Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe-winning producer and Amazon Studios co-founder Joe Lewis (Fleabag, Transparent), Amplify Pictures is helmed by Lewis alongside founding partners Rachel Eggebeen, Chief Content Officer, and Colin King Miller, Chief Operating Officer. Their production slate also includes Legends, the electrifying new docu-series that follows the high-stakes world of competitive collegiate Bollywood Fusion dance. Directed by Smriti Mundhra, the series will debut later this year on Nat Geo/Disney+. Amplify Pictures has recently expanded their theater production division and was a co-producer on Gutenberg! The Musical!, starring Grammy award-winners Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells – the show has just been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical which marks the first Tony Award nomination for Amplify Pictures. The first season of Amplify Pictures' new podcast, Pretty Sure I Can Fly, hosted by Johnny Knoxville and Elna Baker, is out now and produced alongside SmartLess Media and Campside Media.
