The SBIFF Demi Moore retrospective begins tomorrow Friday, February 7th

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival announces a retrospective for Demi Moore, a celebration of the esteemed actress's distinguished career. The retrospective begins on Friday, February 7th at 5:40 PM PT with a screening of Adrian Lyne's Indecent Proposal. ​​An exclusive in-person conversation with Academy Award®-nominated actress Demi Moore will follow the 2:00 PM FREE screening of Coralie Fargeat's Best Picture nominee The Substance on Sunday, February 9. On Monday, February 10th, the festival will host a FREE screening of Jerry Zucker's Ghost at 11:00 AM PT.

Actress, producer, and New York Times bestselling author Demi Moore can currently be seen starring in Coralie Fargeat's critically acclaimed body horror feature, THE SUBSTANCE, alongside Margaret Qualley. The film premiered in-competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it garnered rave reviews and among the longest standing ovations out of the festival. Following it's September 20th theatrical release, Moore went on to receive SAG, BAFTA, Critics Choice, and Academy Award nominations for her performance, winning the Golden Globe. She most recently starred in the second season of "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans," and Paramount+'s "Landman" from Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, in which she stars alongside Jon Hamm and Billy Bob Thornton. It was also recently announced that Moore will star in Boots Riley's I LOVE BOOSTERS alongside Keke Palmer, LaKeith Stanfield and Naomi Ackie. The actress set a record in 1995 when she became the highest-paid actress in Hollywood, known for her work in ST. ELMO'S FIRE, ABOUT LAST NIGHT..., GHOST, A FEW GOOD MEN, INDECENT PROPOSAL, THE SCARLET LETTER, DISCLOSURE, G.I. JANE, CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE, BOBBY, and MARGIN CALL among many others.

SBIFF continues its commitment to education and the community throughout many free educational programs and events. SBIFF's programs support over 18,000 kids, students and families in our local community by introducing film as an art form to young children with programs like AppleBox and Mike's FieldTrip to the Movies; teaching film analysis to highschool and college students with programs like Rosebud and the Film Studies Program; and teaching the craft of screenwriting and filmmaking with Film Camp and 10-10-10 Mentorship programs. Most importantly SBIFF's programs are always directed towards the under-represented and under-served communities within Santa Barbara County.

 

In 2016, SBIFF acquired the historic and beloved Riviera Theatre. After a capital campaign and renovation, the theatre is now SBIFF's state-of-the-art, year-round home, showing new international and independent films every day. In 2019, SBIFF opened its own Education Center in downtown Santa Barbara on State Street to serve as a home for its many educational programs and a place for creativity and learning.
