Todd Haynes discusses childhood love of cinema

During today's masterclass interview, powerhouse director Todd Haynes was asked if any childhood inspirations drove him to filmmaking. Haynes’ answer revealed that he has been in love with the craft since he watched his first movie. This immediate love of cinema has had a lasting effect on his connection with film to this day.
The question posed was if Haynes already dreamt of cinema as a child, he replied emphatically that he did. Hayes stated “The first film I saw as a child was Mary Poppins when I was three, and it induced a kind of passionate psychosis in me that generated some kind of urgent desire to respond by making things.” He goes on to discuss the lasting impact cinema has on the mind, saying “One remembers everything in films that connect to you— you remember every frame, every piece.”
