Winner
The Citizenship Award
7th Edition
Le Prix de la Citoyenneté 2025 7ème édition
UN SIMPLE ACCIDENT de Jafar Panahi
Jury's Note: The jury awarded the Citizenship Award to Jafar Panahi's "A Simple Accident" for its ability to challenge our understanding of freedom, justice, and free will. We were particularly impressed by the director's use of cinema to make "A Simple Accident" a reflection on individual responsibility, courage, and the need to end the cycle of violence.
President of the 2025 Jury: Lucas Belvaux (filmmaker)
The Clap Citizen Cannes Association, a philanthropic, cultural, and educational organization, is committed to the values of the Republic. It initiated the creation of The Citizenship Award.
Nabil Ayouch, a French-Moroccan filmmaker, is its current President. This award is being presented in Cannes for its 7th edition.
The Citizenship Award is universal, secular, and humanist. Its purpose is to reward the values that establish citizens as engaged actors in democracies. It promotes, at the national, European, and international levels, the representation of citizenship in the fields of cinema, audiovisual, and multimedia. Its mission is to facilitate and expand public access, particularly for young audiences, to cinematographic works.
The 2025 jury, chaired by Lucas Belvaux, Franco-Belgian filmmaker, actor and novelist, is made up of Muriel Coulin, filmmaker and director of photography, Delphine Coulin, filmmaker, screenwriter and writer, Isabelle Chenu, journalist and head of the cultural service of RFI as well as Lionel Baier, Swiss filmmaker and producer.
