Elie Levasseur, Head of the Immersive Competition Festival
de Cannes in Mestia
He scouts immersive artworks from across the globe and has been appointed the Head of Immersive, a new section at Cannes International Film Festival, inaugurated just two years ago. Elie Levasseur is a a very busy man and difficult to catch these days. But Khatuna Khundadze, founder and director of Mestia International Short and Mountain Film Festival made the impossible possible and here he is giving a masterclass at Mestia International Short and Mountain Film Festival. He is the special guest of this edition after last year legendary mountaneer Reinhold Messner.
Not only is he "a genious" when it commes to immersive, and here I was quoting Romanian film director Ioana Mischie, who was last year in the Immersive Competition at Festival de Cannes with her immersive artwork "The human violins", but also passionate about mountains. This all in favour for Khatuna, it did not take long to convince Levasseur to come to Mestia, as I found out in the interview with him and Khatuna. And he also brought his family from York in the UK, where he is currently based, they love hiking. In Ushguli, where our exclusive interview took place, his young daughter climbed up fearless the leders of one of the tower, and there were 5 levels in total! "She takes classes" Elie explained.
