That’s a Wrap! Devour! 2025 winners revealed + Montréal contest countdown

The 15th Annual Devour! The Food Film Fest has officially wrapped, and what a delicious celebration of culinary storytelling it was! 

The 16th Annual Devour! The Food Film Fest returns October 19–26, 2026 — mark your calendars.
This year’s festival took us on a journey beyond the plate with 47 films, the Nourish Nova Scotia Youth Film Challenge, and an incredible lineup that reminded us food isn’t just about eating — it’s about memory, identity, creativity, and connection.

2025 GOLDEN TINE AWARD WINNERS
Four out of six winning films were Canadian — all directed by women!
Best Feature Documentary (Tie)
 Agatha’s Almanac — Amalie Atkins (Canada)
A tender, cinematic portrait of a 90-year-old gardener preserving seeds and stories.
 The Chef and the Daruma — Mads Baekkevold (Canada)
A heartfelt look at Vancouver’s legendary Chef Tojo and his influence on Canadian food culture.
Best Feature Drama
Le Dernier repas (The Last Supper) — Maryse Legagneur (Quebec, Canada)*
A visually stunning exploration of memory, cuisine, and redemption through Haitian stories and flavours.
Best Short Documentary
Ekbeh — Mariah Eli Hernandez-Fitch (U.S./Indigenous filmmaker)*
An intimate look at family, language, and gumbo — where recipes become acts of cultural preservation.
Best Short Drama
The Feast — Rishi Chandna (India)*
A fisherwoman challenges corruption with one unforgettable meal.
Best Short Animation
Fille de l’eau — Sandra Desmazières (France)*
A poetic, watercolor-style tribute to historic women divers.
Honourable Mention: Mercenaire — Pier-Philippe Chevigny (Quebec, Canada)*

Nourish Nova Scotia Youth Film Challenge Winners
This year’s “Celebrate Local” theme inspired young filmmakers across the province to create short films about food and sustainability.
Winner: Zero Waste & Local Food — Ember Gaetz, The Booker School (Port Williams)
Honourable Mentions:
– Apples — Cohen Vardy, The Booker School (Port Williams)
– Celebrating the Backyard Harvest — Ever Hare Wright
These students delighted festival audiences with their creativity, storytelling, and Nova Scotia pride!
