The 46th edition of Fantasporto – Porto International Film Festival will be dominated by European cinema, with a strong presence from Spain, showcasing films that demonstrate the brilliance of its filmmakers, many of them multi‑award‑winning. From the East, there is a particular focus on the People’s Republic of China and Japan, where master Eiji Uchida (who will visit us) stands out with his latest film “Eternals”. Another highlight is the introduction—new to Fantasporto and, we believe, to Porto—of Norwegian cinema, in an initiative involving mainly the Norwegian Film Fund, all under the umbrella of the Belt and Road Alliance, an initiative of the Shanghai Festival, of which Fantasporto is a founding member by invitation of the Chinese government. Confirmed guests so far include directors of selected films from the United States, Australia, the People’s Republic of China, and some of the most “hidden” countries in the world, who have also confirmed their presence in Porto. Once again, a Portuguese feature film is included in the official section.
In 2026, we celebrate 46 years of a festival that has grown mainly at the international level and that, here at home, still manages to stay afloat despite a malignant and strange wave that has taken almost everything that once belonged to Porto and the North to Lisbon. This has been happening for about 30 years with most major industries, banks, medium‑sized groups, service companies, and, of course, the political image of our local authorities. The North has thus gradually transformed into a landscape that, despite everything, continues to fight—albeit tenuously—to value the good and high‑quality work being done here, and there is still much to be done.
And here is the final LINEUP of the 46th edition of Fantasporto – Porto International Film Festival.
