Dr. Sam Waymon Joins the 2024 Tryon International Film Festival as a Judge in Human Rights & Dignity Category

The Tryon International Film Festival (TRIFF) is proud to announce the selection of Dr. Sam Waymon as one of the judges for the 2024 edition of the festival, specifically within the category of Human Rights & Dignity. Dr. Waymon will be joining the esteemed Homayra Sellier, a veteran judge of TRIFF, marking a significant addition to the festival's panel with his extensive background in music, film, and civil rights.

 

Dr. Sam Waymon, a resident of Tryon, NC, and the brother of the legendary Nina Simone, has a deeply rooted history in the town. He shared his early years and musical beginnings with Nina, taking piano lessons from the same teacher, Muriel Mazzanovich. This connection laid the foundation for a lifetime of musical and artistic collaboration, significantly influencing the cultural heritage of Tryon.
