In the last few weeks, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (9th to 15th June) has announced the following competitive selections: Short Films and Graduation Films. With the TV and commissioned films revealed yesterday, all 167 short formats competing for this 2024 edition have now been announced.

SHORT FILMS
On the programme: 67 films from 33 different countries, of which more than half (52%) were directed or co-directed by woman.

31 in the Official category: Official Short Films
12 in the Off-Limits category: Off-Limits Short Films
16 in the Perspectives category: Perspectives Short Films
8 in the Young Audience category: Young Audience Short Films
"The 2024 selection will be characterised by a combination of temporalities, genres and techniques. Some films will address key social issues, others will be poetic adaptations of literary works and yet others will be abstract and experimental. The past, present and future come together for all to enjoy in this selection."
Marcel Jean, Artistic Director

TV AND COMMISSIONED FILMS
The TV Films competing feature 24 films, including 19 series and 5 specials from 12 countries. 8 are directed or co-directed by women.
This year, there will be 36 Commissioned Films from 15 nations competing: 7 educational films, 20 commercials and 9 music videos. 15 are directed or co-directed by women and 2 by non-binary people.

Among the countries represented in these 2 groups, Nigeria, Chile, Egypt and Mexico will be alongside the United Kingdom, France and the USA.

"The 2024 TV selection sees the return of some famous characters: Peanuts as well as Beavis and Butt-Head. France, United Kingdom and the USA dominate the selection, but all continents are represented. For the very first time, a Nigerian series will be competing, which clearly demonstrates how animation is developing on the African continent, three years after our tribute to African animation."
Marcel Jean, Artistic Director
