Cannes selections for IFFR-backed films and talent
A spread of films and talent presented at CineMart and backed by the Hubert Bals Fund are once again a fixture of the Cannes lineup in 2025, telling profound family histories, stories of migrant resilience, Italian cowboys, the ruthless world of J-Pop – and a possessed vacuum cleaner.
Two titles were financially supported with €60,000 of production funds each through the HBF+Europe scheme.
Alumni of our Rotterdam Lab producers' workshop are also featured throughout the selections, working alongside some of the world’s most distinguished filmmakers, like Kleber Mendonça Filho, Julia Ducournau, Joachim Trier and Kelly Reichardt.

Marcelo Caetano's Baby was a Cannes hit in 2024. The Brazilian filmmaker discusses the film – a Dutch co-production with Circe Films and Kaap Holland Film – ahead of its release across the Netherlands this May, and how he put it together with the help of the HBF, CineMart and Dutch filmmaking talent.

The HBF and Brazilian partner foundation Projeto Paradiso launched a joint publication last year in São Paulo. Through case studies, essays and conversation, the bilingual publication acknowledges the HBF’s legacy in Brazil and Latin America, and offers insights into the vital role of early-stage development funding in Brazil and beyond.
