Shoot The Book! Cannes 2025: Literature at the Heart of International Cinema

SCELF, the French-Language Publishers' Copyright Collective, and the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival announce the 12th edition of Shoot The Book!, to be held on May 15 and 16, 2025, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.

Since its creation, Shoot The Book! has established itself as a key event at the Marché du Film for publishing and film industry professionals.

Each year in Cannes, literary works are presented to producers seeking new material to adapt, reinforcing the synergy between these two creative worlds.

“Shoot The Book! is a longstanding and strategic program of the Marché du Film. It is the cornerstone of our IP market activity. Now an essential event for literary adaptation to the screen, we are very pleased to continue growing it year after year alongside SCELF.”
— Guillaume Esmiol, Executive Director of the Marché du Film

“SCELF and the Marché du Film offer exceptional visibility at the heart of the Cannes Festival to books that will become films. For 12 years, Shoot The Book! has played a key role in building a truly global ecosystem for adaptation, and we are pleased to see the growing impact of this program, as more and more literary works make their way to the screen.”
— Philippe Robinet, President of SCELF

Shoot The Book! embodies the vitality of books on screen and supports the development of adaptations that generate, on average, 32% more box office admissions than non-adapted films (CNL study with CNC and SCELF, 2025).

This year, more than 120 publishing brands will be represented in Cannes for B2B meetings with producers. A pitch session featuring 12 high-potential titles will also be accessible to producers in the press conference room of the Palais des Festivals. The Shoot The Book! 2025 selection spans a wide variety of genres — graphic novels, fiction, crime, essays, and more — with the highlighted IPs reflecting current trends in the global film industry.

SHOOT THE BOOK! 2025 PARTNERS

SCELF – The French-Language Publishers’ Copyright Collective – is a collective rights management organization created by publishers in 1960 to collect and distribute royalties generated by the many forms of exploitation derived from literary works: audiovisual, theatrical, musical adaptations, and radio creations.

As a bridge between the cultural and creative industries, SCELF supports publishers in the management and promotion of adaptation rights for their literary works. It also develops training initiatives in service of its 397 member publishers.

For the past 12 years, SCELF has promoted the dissemination of literary works through its international program Shoot the Book!, which aims to foster synergies between book publishers and audiovisual professionals.

SCELF offers its members an annual program of events held during major cinema and literary gatherings in France. It is notably present at the Cannes Marché du Film and at Séries Mania, in Angoulême for comics, at the Montreuil Children's Book Fair (SLPJ), and internationally in collaboration with the Institut français — at Ventana Sur in Uruguay, at TCCF in Taiwan, and at MIA in Italy.
