Studio Ghibli Receives Honorary Palme D'or

Studio Ghibli Honorary Palme d'or of the 77th Festival de Cannes - In the presence of Gorō Miyazaki - Festival de CannesToday Studio Ghibli received today an honorary palme d’or today in recognition for almost 40 years of work making some of the most well known and well respected films in the world. Visionary creator Hayao Miyazaki is famous for such films as My Neighbor Totoro(1988), Princess Mononoke(1997), Spirited Away(2001) and many others. One of the most ubiquitous names in cinema Studio Ghibli received this award on the back of an Oscar for last year’s The Boy and the Heron(2023). Goro Miyazaki emphasized the hard work of all the employees who came together to make the studio what it is. He thanked all of his fans before expressing his gratitude for the Palme D’or, unlike the Oscar, having a box for him to take it back in. The speech was followed by an exposition of short films from the Ghibli Museum collection.
