Let the summer games begin! While we wait a few more weeks for the Paris Olympics, we’re introducing some Sundance Institute trivia to shine a light on new releases and revisit some of our past gems. A new twist in our continued effort to highlight Sundance-supported artists and projects, see if you have the film smarts to guess the names of the people and films in this round!

This actor made their first appearance at the Sundance Film Festival in the 2015 film I’ll See You in My Dreams, starring alongside Blythe Danner and Sam Elliott.

This actor was in Other People alongside Jesse Plemons and Molly Shannon, which was in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2016 Festival. Other People also played at Sundance London that year.
The actor’s first leading role was in the film Thelma, directed by Josh Margolin, which played at the 2024 Festival, and was released theatrically on June 21, 2024.

Writer-director Sean Wang workshopped this film at the 2023 Directors Lab where his lead, Izaac Wang, participated as a resource actor for the project.
The film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it won both the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble and the Audience Award: U.S. Dramatic.
This film will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.

Set in East Los Angeles, this film takes place the summer after Ana (America Ferrera) graduates from high school.
The film premiered at the 2002 Festival and won the Audience Award in the Dramatic Competition section and the Special Jury Prize for acting.
The film’s director, Patricia Cardoso, has been a participant at various Sundance programs over the years, including the 1998 Independent Producers Conference (pictured).
